We still build them the same way, one at a time, by hand. Although we now concentrate on commercial industrial applications, we haven’t forgotten our origins, our strict adherence to quality and testing, or our goal of exploring exciting new technological frontiers.

An Electrostatic Precipitator (ESP) may require major upgrade or replacement due to present and future emissions considerations such as the ESP is not meeting outlet emissions/opacity requirements due to fuel switching to a lower sulphur coal, addition of mercury emissions control by sorbent injection upstream of the ESP, addition of a wet or dry FGD system, and compliance with upcoming fine particulate control (PM2.5) regulations. A lower cost option to consider for compliance strategy is the conversion of the existing ESP casing to a pulse jet fabric filter.

ESP Rebuild
We rebuild/retrofit of existing electrostatic precipitators (ESPs). Our engineers evaluate the existing precipitator and use innovative technology in order to enhance the collecting efficiency of the ESP. We have experience with all types of OEM equipment in various configurations, and utilize our strong engineering expertise to cost-effectively retrofit (gut and stuff) an ESP within its existing footprint. Our engineers are trained to find any deficiencies in existing ESPs, and can evaluate your dust collection system to determine what is required to make your ESP meet today’s particulate emissions standards as well as prolong the life of the ESP. Projects often include High-Voltage Sectionalization along with the installation of high-frequency T/R sets to improve efficiency, as well as rapper replacements with Electromagnetic Impulse Rappers, rapper shafts, purge air systems, hopper replacements, hopper heaters, level detectors, and/or the additions of penthouses or weather enclosures.

How they work

An electrostatic precipitator (ESP) uses electricity to capture dust particles from a gas stream. A very high voltage (typically 40,000 to 110,000 Volts) is developed across an air gap between a discharge electrode and a flat metal collecting surface or plate. The process gases (laden with dust) pass between these collecting surfaces and in so doing passes through the highly energized electric field. The dust particles are then charged negatively by cascading electrons and gas molecules. The strong electrical field then drives the dust to the collecting plates where it’s deposited.
